Another nice day

Today was a great day. It was a little chilly this morning but I like the cool crisp breeze as it comes up from the river. I spent most of my day outside near the water and exploring in the woods nearby. I got a nice view of the heron again today flying along the bank and fishing. The beaver was very busy today dragging limbs and small trees out to his dam. As I was walking along the rocks, I spotted another mouse hiding down in a void. I was very patient and it paid off....Yippee... another trophy to lay on the door mat. The rest of the day I explored the woods and a lot of different critters that I hadn't met before. Have I mentioned how much I enjoy my life here on the river? I hope you enjoy your life as much as I do.

Oregon Beavers vs. Oregon ducks

.....The other day I posted pictures of the Oregon ducks in the river.....

Today was a pretty good day. It was a little on the rainy side this morning but it cleared up and I decided to go out and see who I could find to play with. As I made my way through the woods, I bumped into Mr. Squirrel(the fuzzy friend I made the other day). I watched him for a while without moving a muscle. He followed suit and froze in place. As we remained motionless and locked in a stare with each other, I heard a splashing sound from the river behind me. I briefly glanced away toward the sound and when I looked back, the squirrel had magically vanished. The splashing sound continued and curiosity got the best of me. As I crept down the rocky river bank I saw an Oregon Beaver(well it was a beaver and we were in Oregon). He was struggling with a large branch that was partially in the river. I slowly made my way over the rocks and down the bank. I watched as he got the branch out of the water and onto the shore. He paused for a while and then went back for a drink. I slowly moved closer and then I was spotted. He stepped into the water and swam away. I hope I get another chance to meet him, he seemed friendly. I did a lot of hunting today but that beaver was probably my most interesting find. I had a pretty good day, I hope you did too.

A lazy day for me

I stayed out late last night. When I went out for my evening stroll, I caught my chubby raccoon friend stealing food from my bowl. I knew there was something about him I couldn't trust. Instantly the chase began... first under the porch, then out to the yard for a few laps, and finally down to the river where he got away. Geeesh....he is pretty quick for being so darn plump. After the chase I decided to do some mouse hunting. I had a pretty good hunt and caught 2 mice. I don't like to eat mice, I just leave them on the doormat for my family to enjoy. I guess I wore myself out because today I was pretty tired. I went outside for a while and watched some geese but mostly I just lied around the house, watched "Ellen", and did the lazy thing. Untill tomorrow....LIVE , LAUGH, and Nap.

The one that got away....

Today was a pretty nice Sunday...Not too warm, but not rainy. I did the usual cat stuff (eating, napping, cleaning myself) and then went outside to see what kind of adventure was in store for me. As I sat on the back porch, I noticed a Blue Jay perched next to the river. I knew from experience that I probably had no chance of catching him but I am a cat and it is my job to try. I slowly crept to the edge of the yard and just as I was trying to invent a way to jump 5 feet in the air,he flew away. When I peered over the edge of the yard, I saw one of the largest birds yet. It was a Blue Heron. It had one of the longest beaks I had seen. I was so impressed with it's size that I sat and watched him for what seemed like an hour(probably only 7 minutes in cat time). When I got up the nerve to move in closer, he stretched his wings and took flight. It was amazing to watch. After going down and getting a drink of nice cool water, I realized I was hungry and went to the house to eat.

I think I made a new friend today

This morning I went out and cruised around the yard a while. I saw a squirrel that I have been trying to get acquainted with. I walked slowly (as not to spook him) and calmly so he knew I wasn't trying to stalk him. He seemed to understand and instead of quickly running away, he taunted me a bit by running circles around the tree and stopping each time to see if I was still watching.I guess he realized I wasn't trying to catch him. I think maybe we could be friends. After several minutes of this game, the squirrel moved on and I went down to the river to take in my daily view. As I sat on my favorite rock, I saw a couple "Oregon Ducks"... well actually they were ducks,,, and they were in Oregon. After a while, a drift boat floated past . Then it started raining a little bit and I headed for shelter. Even when it rains, I wouldn't trade my life on the river for anything.

I share the river with a lot of wildlife

Today while I was out enjoying the sunshine again, I had a close encounter with a chubby raccoon. I think he was as curious about me as I was about him. I tried to get close but I have to admit that something was a bit intimidating about him. I think it was the mask, or possibly his shiny eyes. After a brief stare down, He wandered away. I focused my attention on some small fish in the river and a hawk that was flying overhead that seemed to be watching the fish too. After chasing a butterfly for a while, I decided to take a nap in the old hammock. I love life on the river and all the wildlife I share it with. Have a wonderful day, MITCH

Another warm day

Today was nice and sunny again. The river was busy with a lot of boats. I even watched a rescue boat speed past. I watched a bald eagle up in a tree for a long time. I thought about catching him but he looked a little out of my league. I changed my focus to a grey squirrel climbing down a tree. He looked more my size but he was a bit faster than I expected and quickly evaded my pursuit. I sure am glad that my family feeds me, I don't think I would survive on my on merits. All in all, I had a pretty awesome day. I hope you all have a nice day too. MITCH

I had a busy day today

This morning while making my usual rounds, I spotted a Blue jay in the trees. I stalked it very carefully. I went into my ninja - stealth mode. It is hard to be stealth when you are wearing a bright orange coat. I expertly climbed the tree to get within striking distance of my prey. Just as I was ready to pounce,,,,, one of my family members walked up behind me and the bird flew away. DRATZ... After waiting a while to see if it would return, I decided to go down to the river and look for an easier prey. I saw a mouse, but it went between some rocks where I couldn't reach it. I decided to sit and soak in the beautiful view of the river for a while. As the sun climbed higher in the sky and it got warmer, I decided to look for shade near a tree and take a nap. Hunting can wear a fella out. Untill tomorrow, I hope you enjoy life as much as I do. MITCH

Today I narrowly escaped death

This morning I sat and watched some deer in my back yard for a while. I tried to make friends but they weren't very friendly. When I went in for a closer look, I got a little kick in the head. What was I thinking? How rude was that? I could have died.... I just wanted to get aquainted.
